Many PSA group vehicles, including models from Peugeot, Citroën, Vauxhall and DS, are fitted with a wet belt system that runs immersed in engine oil, unlike a traditional dry cambelt. This applies particularly to the widely used 1.2 PureTech petrol engine, found across popular models including the Peugeot 208, 2008, Citroën C3, C4, Vauxhall Corsa and DS3. Over time, the belt can deteriorate and shed debris into the oil system, especially if service intervals have been missed or incorrect oil has been used. Left unchecked, a failing wet belt can result in serious (sometimes irreparable) engine damage.
